Branching Out with STEM, 2019-2024
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) awarded a grant to the Fort Sam Houston ISD to improve mathematics achievement of military-connected student through a strong, vertically integrated curriculum of math and science in the real world with a focus on the future. The elementary grades are focusing on exposure to and building the skills of STEM through science, robotics, math and hands-on learning. Middle schools are focusing on taking those skills learned in elementary and moving them to meaningful application through extracurricular clubs and competition. The secondary focus combines college and career readiness with real world skills that show the power, applicability and integral use of science, math, technology and engineering. SEG is monitoring fidelity of implementation, collecting performance data to inform implementation, and collecting outcome data to assess the success of the initiative.
